Island Showdown For Williams Racing

team press release 15 September 2015

Williams Racing heads to the seaside Phillip Island race track this weekend for the final round of the 2015 Rockpress Australian Superkart Championship full of confidence after recent success at the venue. With two of their three competing drivers currently in the title chase, this weekends action promises to be fast and furious with all the major contenders in attendance.

Fresh from his recent Victorian Title, current championship leader, Jordan Ford is looking to grab the coveted number one plate on offer. In his first full season of superkarting, Ford recently set a new lap record in his Anderson Maverick/Yamaha powered machine of 1.34.9, 1.5 seconds under the previous benchmark quick time.

Leading the championship coupled with his Phillip Island pace has Ford firmly established as the favourite this weekend. No expense has been spared in his assault with a freshly rebuilt and updated YZ250 engine being installed for the weekend.

Dale Williams, in what may be his final superkart outing, travels to the Island in third position in the championship. Williams will be a strong title contender as he looks to improve on the third placings overall he has achieved in the last two championship years and firmly believes the new chassis he is campaigning this year may be the edge he needs to go two steps higher on the podium. Indeed Williams won the final round at Phillip Island two years ago and is looking to reignite his title hopes at his favourite circuit.

Making his championship debut in a third Williams Racing prepared Anderson/Yamaha will be third generation racer Tyler Williams. At only 17 years old, Tyler’s recent form has showed a growing maturity beyond his years and the chance to race and test himself against the countries best racers is an opportunity he is looking forwards to. With carburation and ignition issues hampering his recent Vic Title campaign, the youngest Williams will be looking to match the lap times of his more favoured rivals and possibly challenge for one of the lower steps on the podium before a full tilt on the Championship next season.
