2015 Hadspen Excavations Tasmanian Kart Championship, Launceston

The weather Gods delivered the sunshine and the drivers delivered the great racing action over three days of karting at the Launceston Kart Club.

The committee of the LKC had been hard at work for a number of months getting the venue spick and span for the championship and the weather added to a great weekend of racing. With the support of major sponsor Hadspen Excavation the Launceston Kart Club would like to thank all the competitors for making the 2015 Tasmanian Kart Championship the success that it was.

Race Report:

Cadet 9
Victorian Brodie Thomson took the win after a titanic battle with fellow Victorian Joseph Fawcett and Launceston duo Jake Delphin and Toby Callow. In the end a 10 second penalty handed to Fawcett for a mid-race incident relegated the youngster from first to fourth allowing Callow to grab the last spot on the podium.

Cadet 12
Emerson Harvey and Australia #1 Jay Hanson were the stand out drivers over the weekend with Harvey claiming qualifying honours but Hanson claiming wins in both heats and the pre-final. However, Harvey regained control in the final to claim the coveted blue plate from Hanson with Will Harper taking third in front of local gun Ethan Wyllie.

Junior National Light

Junior National Heavy
Benito Montalbano made it two from two with another commanding victory, this time in JNH. Winning all heats and the final Montalbano had at least a 3 tenth’s of a second advantage over his rivals on lap times and was rarely challenged. Clubman Light
In one of the best finals of the championship, Victorian Simon Fallon was able to withstand the presure from the ACT’s Bec Connell to take victory in Clubman Light, the pair dicing corner after corner in the closing laps. Third was Burnie’s Shane Bray.

Clubman Heavy
Launceston Kart Club's Zane Wyatt claimed his seventh state title dominating Clubman Heavy. Wyatt was the fastest qualifier and won all heats and the final in a comanding fashion. Second was Hobart's Jonathan McDonald with Remo Luciani third.

TAG 125 Light

TAG 125 Heavy
In what ended up as a “Bradbury” style win, Victorian Benjamin Walter claimed another Tasmanian State Championship when he was the last man standing in the final of TaG 125 Heavy. With a six kart train for the majority of the race the front three of Jamie Bricknell, Jake Rice and Walter all took turnes leading whilst Troy Stone, Dillon Van Galen and Alastair Lee followed waiting for the final 3 action packed laps to unfold. First to go was Lee with mechanical issues then Walter and Stone coming to gether with two laps remaining which left Rice leading into the final corners ahead of Bricknell and Van Galen, however all three got tangled up  within sight of the chequered flag, allowing Walter to criuse past to take the win! Behind Walter havoc was still unfolding with a recovering Van Galen and a fast finishing Joshua Hardy making heavy contact ending with Hardy into the finishing straight tyre wall. This allowed Rice to limp across the line in third.

X30 Light
Hobart’s Evan Livingston claimed his first state title when he greeted the chequered flag first in X30 Light. Pre race favorites Nathan Zuj, Jade Waddington and Zac Soutar all got together on lap 4 allowing Livingston to take over the lead and from there on was never headed. Brody Appleby was second and the recovering Soutar took the final spot on the podium.
