Karting Added To Alice Springs Masters Games

  11 December 2015

Karting has been added to the 2016 Alice Springs Masters Games. The Australian Independent Dirt Kart Association (AIDKA) is expecting over 100 drivers for the event with many coming from interstate.

The alicespringsmastersgames website says the Alice Springs Karting Club facility will undergo upgrades to power, the canteen and grandstand after the Government announced a $300,000 capital works boost in the Budget.

The Alice Springs Karting Club facility is the only dirt kart racing club in the Northern Territory.

“I’ve been talking about how good it would be to add Go Karting to the Alice Springs Masters Games for the last 10 years, so this is great news,” Tony Connor (local Alice Springs Go Kart driver and AIDKA President) told the site.

"I’ve contacted some racing veterans and there are two men in their 80s coming out of retirement to be involved in the Games. One will be a flag bearer and hasn’t raced for 15 years.

“This is not only great for the older participants but also the young Go Kart drivers. We’ll be able to teach the children how to run the show, from doing the flags to organising the pits. It will be great training for the young ones."

The 2016 Alice Springs Masters Games will run from 8 to 15 October. The karting events will take place at the Arunga Park Speedway Complex.
