Tough Weekend For AWC Academy Drivers

press release 29 March 2016

Round 2 of the Australian Karting Championship did not pan out the way the academy drivers had hoped. After a 2 day test the weekend before the spirits and expectations of all four drivers were high. After qualifying mid pack all drivers were involved in racing incidents that prevented quality results being obtained.

KA4 Junior driver Lochie Dalton qualified 25th in the 39 strong field, Dalton started strongly in heat 1  finishing a health 19th, however from there on Dalton struggled for pace as a result from damage sustained in the earlier heat racing and ended the day 30th in the Final on Sunday afternoon.

KA2 driver Jackson Callow qualified strongly on Saturday with a 13th grid spot for the heats, Callow however got tangled up in a couple of incidents that were out of his control resulting in  a damaged kart and DNF in heat 2, Callow was able to finish 12th in the final after starting off grid 17.

X30 drivers Brody Appleby and Nathan Zuj had a weekend to forget with poor qualifying  resulting in both starting down the back of the field in the heats, (Zuj 16th and Appleby 18th) Heat 2 was the only race where they were able to show some pace which resulted in a top ten finish for Zuj (9th) and Appleby not far behind in 12th.

In the final Appleby got tangled up in a first corner crash resulting in a DNF whilst Zuj battled on and finished 14th in the 20 lap final after a flat tyre saw him drop several spots late in the race.
