Superkarts Return To Bathur...Err, Broadford

press release 18 May 2016

Superkarts returned to Broadford on May 15 proving that set up at this circuit means everything - the undulating “Bathurst” type layout played into the hands of some and to the detriment of others.

With a fine day of good clean racing on display for those who came along for a look.

In the 250 class, once Anton Stevens had run in a motor and made some minor changes, he finished convincingly ahead of a very fast on cold tyres Jamie MacDonald who is still coming to terms with the twin after stepping up to this class from Stock Honda last year.

Young Tyler Williams was a determined stayer to out run team mate Jordan Ford in the singles (Nationals), finishing every heat in a strong position ahead of his competition.

David Byrne put in a solid performance in the 125 Gearbox class but Todd Gardner was not to take it lying down by posting a new lap record at this demanding circuit along the way.

But it was in the Non Gearbox and Stock Honda classes that things were exciting and hard to call.

In Stock Honda, three leaders broke away from the pack in each heat and swapped the lead position on each lap with a race win going to each of the podium finishers, one bad move or an overshot corner cost each and every one of them.

In the end it was Nathan Pryor ahead of Tim Clarke and Justin Ford.

The non gearbox classes also provided great racing. In the Lights Russ Occhipinti settled into a straight heats win while Brayden Bailey, Peter Strangis and Sanuja Perera went wheel to wheel for the spoils.

In Non Gearbox Heavy it was the perfect day for club president Rod Clarke. Clean sweeping each heat by the biggest margin seen at Broadford, it was his circuit, the best set up and a grin from ear to ear. No one could come anywhere near him.

Meanwhile back in the pack, Ivo Baldari, Jarrod Sanfilippo and Mario Florio were at it wheel to wheel wondering where Clarke had gone.

Superkarts will return to Broadford on June 11 to contest Round four of the Victorian Club series.
