Updates from the wonderful world of karting...

  • One of the country's key standalone events, the annual City of Melbourne Titles, will take place at the Todd Rd circuit on August 13-14. Organised by the Go Kart Club of Victoria, the event was instigated over 30 years ago when the club ran at the old Brooklyn circuit. It not only attracts the top drivers from Melbourne, but has a history of attracting strong interstate compeition as well. Supp Regs for this 32nd edition of the meeting will be available soon.

  • This is good PR - go karts at the local McDonald's restaurant!   • The IPK factory teams have changed engine manufacturer to TM. IPK and IAME have worked closely together for nearly 5 years, but according to a press release, both organisations have decided to part ways in karting competitions at the factory team level. "Praga and Formula K factory teams are grateful for successful co-operation of past years where we reached together the highest achievements like world champions and European vice-champions as well as a double podium at last SKUSA Supernationals" IPK published. Both Formula K and Praga factory drivers will now use TM engines. “We are aware of the potential and skills of TM personnel and their tuners and we are going to use this potential” said team manager Cash Van Belle.

  • A revolutionary engine, which has been described as a Wankel rotary turned inside out, has been fitted to a kart. Developed by American company Liquid Piston, the X Mini is very light and compact. It has three combustion events per revolution and the company wants to trim the base engine to under 2kg(!) with a 5hp output at 15,000rpm. The motor is not yet commercially available.



  • AiM SportSystems will be at Newcastle for the 2016 NSW State Championship round tomorrow (Friday 17th) and Saturday. "We will be there to assist our Dealers and Customers with product support, technical advice and any setup information. We will also be there to assist our Dealers and new Customers with our new release of MyChron5. If you need any assistance on any day please contact Ron on 0418 424 560."


  • 114 nominations have been received for the 2016 AIDKA Northern Territory Titles. Eleven classes will be contested and drivers will be advised of their race numbers shortly. The event takes place at the Arunga Park Speedway Complex in Alice Springs on 9-10 July. See the full entry list HERE.

  • A bunch of photos from the Bairsndale Kart Club's open race meeting on June 4 - which was hit by torrential showers - can be found HERE.



  • Gippsland Go Kart Club member John Schena was badly injured when he crashed out of the Finke desert race last weekend. Schena came off his Honda CR 500 on Day 2, sustaining fractures to his spine and several ribs. The club and its members wish John a speedy recovery.

  • Victorian Superkart racer Russ Occhipinti has landed a Penrite sponsorship for the rest of 2016. He duly won his next event, the fourth round of the Victorian Superkart Club series at Broadford. After qualifying on pole, he won all four races in the Rotax Light division. "Racing was tight all weekend as we had several interstate competitors getting ready for the nationals in August" Occhipinti said. "Still, it was a clean sweep in all conditions for the Ace Karts racing team and the Woodgate Evo chassis."

  • 12 young karters attended their first Confederation of Australian Motor Sport 'CAMS Karting Camp' recently. Check out some of the vision from the weekend below:


  • Accordong to his Facebook page, Piero Antonio Pascazio has officially became the youngest member of UK based Arden International Motorsport Ltd, which was founded by Red Bull Racing's Christian Horner. "Piero will be part of the Young Racing Driver Academy after karting" his page stated. Young Piero also smashed his old personal best lap time of the Xtreme karting complex after a one hour training session recently. Piero is currently 4 yrs and 7 months old and drives an 80cc engined kart.

  • Trackside Motorsport's Dan Ferry sent us the link to a YouTube video of his mate's roll over at the East Coast Over 40s Titles at Coffs Harbour. "At the start of pre final 1, Warren McGrouther was involved in a nasty roll over in turn 1. Warren was not badly hurt and enjoyed a good rest before rejoining the field on Sunday" Ferry informed us.


  • Ringwood Kart Centre is on the move! The East-Melbourne retailer is moving to new premises to better provide their ever expanding services. "We will be opening on the 4th of July in the new premise. We are moving to Factory (1) 24 Summer Lane, Ringwood, VIC, 3134. Trading will be as normal (at current location) until the 1st of July." - www.ringwoodkartcentre.com.au

  • The 2016 Sodi World Finals will be run in Paris from 7 to 9 July. 280 drivers have qualified from more than 30 countries for what Sodi describe as the benchmark World Championship for leisure karting. Friday and Saturday will be devoted to the many races of the Sprint Cup and Junior Cup Finals which will finish with the main races on Saturday afternoon. The teams for the Endurance Cup will have more than two hours of running in free and timed practice before starting the 12-hour Friday night race. In 2015, the Sodi World Series reached no less than 35,000 drivers, in more than 3,000 races all over the world with 220 partner circuits taking part.

  • Kartfight London will expand this year. Initially targeting the UK tech sector, this year will see 7 Kartfights for 7 different industries (Law, Finance, Recruitment companies, Estate Agencies, Management Consultancies, Marketing & Advertising, and Tech Companies) take place in October. Each team is made of four drivers and up to 20 supporters. The supporters' role is to keep busy cheering, drinking (free bar all night) and playing Mario Kart!

  • The Southern Go-Kart Club will have the Bolivar kart track available exclusively for Rotax Pro Tour competitors to practice on the weekend of July 9-10. IE: The track will be closed to all other members and general karters. Practice fees will be $50 for one day or $75 for both days. Further, the track can be made available on Friday July 8 for teams to set up their pit area if they wish. IKD advise that security will be provided on Saturday night only, so teams setting up on Friday will do so at their own risk. "Teams are welcome to leave their equipment during the week leading up to the race meeting (this will again be at your own risk). Security will commence again from Thursday onwards for the race meeting."

  • The Eastern Lions Kart Club is running a fundraiser on the Saturday night of club day weekend later this month. The club had to undertake emergency track works to the Puckapunyal circuit a while back to keep the venue running, a project that is reported to have cost nearly $600,000. "The club, as always, is being proactive to continue being able to provide the facility in the highest standard and this fundraiser is an integral part of this" KartSportNews was informed.

  • Harrington Doyle Racing Arrow Karts has announced that IAME X30 driver Luke Flynn has confirmed his move up to the KA1 class for Round 4 of the Australian Kart Championship at Ipswich. "Luke has been a strong achiever for us in the X30 class over the past 2 seasons, culminating in an exceptional 2nd place podium result at last year's Gold Coast 600 Race of Stars and a podium finish in the 2015 Queensland State Titles" said Team Manager, Craig Doyle. "We're excited and proud to see him step up to the KA1 challenge at Ipswich, joining team mates, current KA1 Aus # 2 Scotty Sorensen and Supercars Dunlop series driver Todd Hazelwood."

  • BRP-Rotax has announced they will be allowing up to five "Grand Festivals" each year, with one permitted per continent. The Grand Festivals are specifically for the Mini and Micro MAX categories. The first Grand Festival will be held in Spain in September. Competitors will need to arrange their own entry (and chassis) if they wish to compete. Sealed engines will be raffled at the event. There has been no word of any plans for an Australian Grand Festival.

  • Addendum to the Supp Regs for the Northern Territory Titles next month, switching the MG Red/White tyre back to the MG Yellow for the X30 class. View it HERE.

  • Kartlink report that the MSA has launched a tender process to control and ultimately restrict the use of tyres in UK karting from 2017. The system will, among other things, log the track-session history of every race tyre used at official meetings. Read more HERE.
