ROUND 2, NEWCASTLE 17-19 JUNE 2016

It was a weekend of wet racing in Round Two of the State Titles held in Newcastle, with rain prevailing half the day on Saturday and torrential downpours right through the day on Sunday proving a huge challenge for all drivers. Driving and mechanical skills as well as mental endurance were put to the test lap after lap as the weather conspired to defeat any driver who wasn’t in top form.

PRODUCT UPDATE
NEW EXHAUST SYSTEM APPROVED FOR THE PRD GALAXY

The original PRD Galaxy exhaust system is no longer in production and no longer available. It has been replaced by a new exhaust which is shorter and more versatile.

We’ve been doing some rigorous testing of this new system and have found that it provides better drivability for the engine and therefore is more suitable to a wider variety of tracks.  For more information, call us today on (02) 9773 8677.

TECH TIP
PROTECTING YOUR RIBS

It is well known that go karting can place tremendous pressure on your upper body and result in damage to your rib cage unless you know what you are doing. Go karts have some of the highest mid corner grip levels of any motorsport. The levels are so high that when go kart tracks are laid they need to use the same quality bitumen as a Formula One track.

This is great fun, however most of the load is then transferred onto your upper body, and in particular your rib cage. In order to prevent doing damage to your ribs there are two very important things to consider.

1. Rib Protector
A good quality rib protector is a must. It is one of those items that you should not skimp on as the cost to recover is going to be a lot more than paying a few extra dollars for a rib protector which will look after your health and ability to race. Damaged ribs take a long time to recover from, even sneezing will hurt, so you could find yourself on the sidelines for months if you don’t take proper precautions.

SGK recommend the Bengio Bumper. The Bengio Bumper is specially sized to fit the curve of your chest. However the most important part is the hard outer shell. The hard outer shell is a must to spread the loads and prevent concentrated pressure. Don’t fall for any of those carbon looking rib protectors that look hard but are really not. It’s just not worth it.

2. Correct Fitting Seat
Choosing a seat that fits your body shape properly is critically important.

If your seat is too tight and is putting pressure on your ribs this will hurt your ribs when you hit bumps and ripple strips. If your seat is too loose it is just as bad because you will slap side to side in the seat and transfer the impact from bumps into your body.

So how do you know if your seat fits correctly?

A good way to test is to use your hands. For a proper fit, you should be able to fit one hand down one side between your ribs and the seat. If you can fit more than one hand you may need some high density seat padding. Feel free to show us your seat next time you are at a race meeting or bring your kart into our showroom for a professional no charge fitting.
