The Anti Hitting Device

  29 July 2016

RGMMC has unveiled an "Anti Hitting Device" for karting.

Developed by RGMMC and PixelCom, the device was created to control driver standards and "make karting a safer and fairer sport". However, it might give the race officials a bit more work to do...

The device turns the rear bumper into one big pressure sensor. Any time the sensor is triggered, the device relays a timestamp to the race control software that RGMMC use to analyse videos and incidents.

This will allow race officials to more easily locate the incident for review, allowing them to determine if there should be a penalty applied or not.

RGMMC, as promoter of the Rotax and X30 Euro series, are ready to trial the device at one of their upcoming events.

This is a high-tech alternative approach compared to the CIK-FIA's push-back bumper system. It's just a shame that either need to be considered as a requirement in the first place :(

Above: RGMMC's James Geidel demonstrates the red light on the transmitter each time the impact sensor registers a hit.
