25-Lap Finals Test Stamina @ Manning Valley Twilight

from Greg Moores 1 August 2016

Manning Valley Kart Club welcomed a few first time visitors to their circuit at the Wingham Sporting Complex on the weekend where there were small but quality fields across the classes.

The event featured a 25 lap final under lights on Saturday as preparation for the NSW State Championship final round in September.

KA3 drivers set a cracking pace with Kody Garland running down Bec Connell in the final. Oscar Priest was consistently fast in KA4 Juniors.  TAG 125 saw the first four drivers qualify with a one tenth of a second spread. Royce Sutherland set the fastest lap of the TAG 125 Final on lap 21 in his win but his points overall were let down by a spin in Heat 2.  Kody Garland took out TAG 125 on points, making it two from two on the night.  This was a great response to having all his equipment stolen at Bolivar.  Harrison Mitchell took a clean sweep of Cadet 12s and Leon Cordato won Cadet 9s.

The club is working hard in preparation for the State Championship round under the leadership of club president Darren Chick.  The club also welcomes the support coming from the karting fraternity across NSW.  It has been a long time since State Championships were held under lights and the club is looking forward to offering a different challenge to drivers who come up the beautiful Manning Valley in September.

Bec Connell comes in after the KA3 Final. Kody Garland is already on the scales.

The warm-up event for the final round of the State Championships is in three weeks time on Saturday August 20. Practice on Friday August 19 is free to those who pre-enter on CMS and there will also be practice on Saturday morning before the Manning Valley Kart Club runs its regular twilight format including long finals under lights.

Practice for the State Championships is putting local drivers under a bit of pressure although the new visitors have confirmed that the Manning Valley track is one of the most physically demanding in the country.
