IPSWICH KART CLUB – 17TH SEPTEMBER 2016
IKC Round 7 – TaG 125 Restricted Light/Heavy/ Over 40 & Super Heavy Titles.

A smaller than normal number of competitors, along with spannermen and families arriving for the seventh round of the Club Championship for 2016, did not defuse the emotional enthusiasm of 127 drivers to provide a day of competition to remember, even though it promised precipitation later in the afternoon.

Cadet 9, Cadet 12, KA4 Junior Light, KA3 Junior and JMAX along with TaG 125 Light and Heavy, KA3 Senior Heavy and Light and the Title classes of TaG Restricted Light, Heavy, Masters Over 40 and Super Heavy were to provide an excellent combination of classes to excite the large crowd of spectators present.

The Club to run its normal racing format that has proven so popular, qualifying over 6 minutes, 1 Heat, a Pre-Final and the Final only to count, with additional laps for the Title classes.

Cadet 9 Qualifying and Final Results

A field of 20 youngsters drove onto the track, the enthusiasm to achieve Pole undeniable, after the six minute session we were to see on Pole: Jakob Scott (#84) with a time of 56.461 seconds; P2 Beau Bromhead (#71) 56.635; (both these boys visitors from Lismore), P3 Lachlan Platten (#56) 56.663; P4 Jordan Ensbey (#22) with a time of 57.237 seconds.

The Final was run over a distance of 13 laps (14.04 Klms) Jakob Scott, after qualifying fastest, a win in the Heat and the Prefinal was to take the win from fellow Lismore Club member Beau Bromhead, the margin 7.196 seconds, a decisive win indeed, running third was Bryce Powell, Bromhead was not to have it all his own way throughout the Final, second for the first three laps before Powell moved forward, firstly on lap four and then again to take the advantage on lap eight for four laps before being sent back to third with Bromhead holding second for the final two laps, the fastest lap recorded in the Final going to Jakob Scott with a time of 56.275 seconds recorded on his fourth lap of the journey.

A field of 18 young drivers drove out onto the racing surface to determine who would start from Pole; after 6 minutes the Pole position went to Oscar Targett (#22) with a time of 54.402 seconds (just 0.047 of a second outside the class lap record set by Tristan Griffin on the 25th June 2016); P2 Jack Hotter (#33) 54.433; P3 Ethan Feather (#96) 54.719; P4 to Oscar Comley (#88) with a time of 54.728 seconds.

The Final, held over the same distance as the Cadet 9 class was to see an intense battle for the podium positions, Oscar Comley led lap one, before Jack Hotter moved past and took over the lead, holding the position for six laps before Oscar Comley regained the first spot, but, only for one lap, Jack Hotter moving back into the lead on the very next lap, Comley to take back control on lap ten and was to survive the next three laps to take the win from the fast finishing Jack Hotter, the margin just .556 of a second, meanwhile Ethan Feather fifth at the completion of the first lap was to move forward to fourth on the same lap as Marcus Watson moved to third, lap five, these positions reversed on the following lap with Feather up to third and Watson relegated to fourth, Ethan Feather to finish just .310 of a second behind Hotter, in third, the fastest lap recorded by Ethan Feather with a time of 54.880 seconds on his ninth lap of the thirteen.

TaG 125 Light Qualifying and Final Result

A top line field of fifteen drivers were to contest over 6 minutes the opportunity to start from Pole position, Marc Tulloch (#88) was the stand out with a time of 49.340 seconds, on a day that keen race followers will long remember, P2 Brendan Nelson (#70) 49.691; P3 Ben Jurczak (#76) 49.870; and P4 Adam Mercer (#41) with a time of 49.998 seconds, we were in for something special.

We had the best of the best for the Final, Brendan Nelson after his win in the Prefinal starting from Pole, (current lap track record holder with a time of 48.958) beside him Adam Mercer (winner of the Graham Acreman Trophy earlier in the year), row two Luke Collett with Joshua Amundsen (into Lights after a win in the Heavy class earlier in the year) and Marc Tulloch off P5, after starting from P14 in the Prefinal, it was a joy to watch, Nelson leading out as we have come to expect over the years with Adam Mercer in close company, Marc Tulloch up into third by the completion of the second lap, just .379 behind Mercer, lap three and the margin second to third just five one hundreds of a second, lap four and Tulloch into second, margin .774 to Nelson, it was on the eighth lap that we were to watch this young man move past Brendan Nelson and go onto win the Final, a day to remember, the introduction of Marc Tulloch into the  ranks of TaG 125 Light at Ipswich, the margin at the end was 2.427 seconds, with Brendan Nelson finishing second on the day, a further 3.487 seconds away in third Adam Mercer. I am sure that these three drivers will have many opportunities in the future to test their skills against each other, and we certainly look forward to the next time, the fastest lap going to Marc Tulloch with a time of 49.774 seconds on his seventh lap, the lap track record is possibly his next challenge, just 0.382 of a second to match the time, or 0.381 to better the time set by Brendan Nelson.

2016 TaG 125 Restricted Light Title Qualifying and Final Results

A field of sixteen drivers moved onto the racing surface to determine who would start from Pole for this class, 6 minutes later we were to see the Pole time set by Sebastian Blindell (#36) with a time of 50.741 seconds, (lowering his previous best lap record time by 0.027 of a second, set on the 28th May); P2 Rhys Willemse (#26) 51.152; P3 Ryan Mussell (#46) 51.208; P4 Kevin Johnston (#49) 51.288; P4 seconds.

Congratulations to the Ipswich Kart Club for providing a set of tyres to Sebastian and some great trophies for the podium positions.

Again thanks to the Club for providing a set of tyres for the winner along with some wonderful mementoes of the day.
