Records Tumble at Vic Superkart Series Opener

from Rolf Greve 26 February 2017

The Victorian Superkart season kicked off at the newly resurfaced Winton circuit on Saturday February 25 under perfect racing conditions.

The Club welcomed Englishman Liam Morley who is a regular at the European Championships and the return of Jason Akermanis to racing.

The action was close and exciting all day and relatively incident free with Russ Occhipinti (Rotax Light) and Rod Clarke (Rotax heavy) making it a clean sweep while the others all traded places throughout the day providing great in close dicing.

Sharing the meeting with the Marquee Sports Car Association we had many good comments from the other competitors and officials on just how good, quick and agile Superkarts are.

Lap records also fell with Liam Morley in a 250 National setting a new time of 1:22.7204 in Race One while Jordan Ford was having none of that, securing a new lap record of 1:22.4093 in Race Two.

Three other records were all broken in race one and they were:

  • Russ Occhipinti in Non-Gearbox Light with a 1:30.9851
  • Jarrod Sanfillipo in Non-Gearbox Heavy 1:33.4324
  • Kieran Morling in the Stock Honda with a 1:27.9842.

The next round of the Victorian Club Series takes place in two short weeks at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit on March 11 and entries are now open.

We may even see some revenge from Liam Morley before returning to the UK...
