Tassie's Fastest Ladies Lithgow Report

press release 1 February 2013

Tassie's Fastest Ladies is a group of six Tasmanian girls that formed as a team in January last year. The group formed to be the first Tasmanians to compete at the Lithgow ladies national pink plate event.

The team has spent the last 12 months fundraising to be able to attend the event. When the girls started to fund raise the main goal was to raise enough money to get the girls and their karting equipment to Lithgow and have a few extra dollars to donate to breast cancer. The girls achieved this goal within the first two months of fundraising through selling chocolates holding raffles and bbqs around all the Tasmanian tracks. So the girls decided to continue fundraising and donate as much as they could to the national breast cancer association.

Once all figures had been tallied and money was taken out for transport of the Karting equipment and the girls airfares and accommodation was deducted from the total the girls were very happy that they would be donating just over $4000 to breast cancer.

The girls were very excited when their flight landed in Sydney and they began the three hour drive to Lithgow. When the girls arrived the dads and brothers had all ready set up and all they had to do was pull on their suits and they were right to hit the track. After three days of practice and a few pickups along the way the girls were ready to step up and race against an all female field.

Saturday brought some more ups and downs but all in all the girls were happy with their results and everyone was happy with where they ended up at the end of the day. The team was even more excited when they woke up on Sunday morning as they woke to a sight that they seen regularly while racing in Tasmania, rain and a wet track. The pre final and final brought some good results with all girls placing within the top ten and two girls within the top three.

The girls really enjoyed their time at this amazing event. No pink plates were brought home but fifth place was brought home from Caitlin Fitch in Rookies, fourth was brought home from Zane Ripper in JNH and a second place was brought home by Renee Chettle in TaG Restricted Combined.

Unfortunately we had two dnfs from Naomi Wrigley and Bree Hobden however if these two had of finished, there would have been another two trophies brought home. An amazing effort was shown from Tori Hildyard who finished just outside the top ten in her open race meeting. The girls were sad to see the trip come to an end but al girls are determined to return again in the near future.
