While the rebuilding and repairs continue in the Bundaberg region following the recent flooding, the Bundaberg Kart Club will be back on track with their first meeting of the year this Sunday.

The Dromeside Raceway emerged unscathed from the recent tumultuous weather and Club President Robin Petersen has indicated that the members are looking forward to Sunday’s racing.

“Given the floods, at one stage we thought we might cancel the event but with the track being all ok it’s time to go racing again,” said Petersen.

“The majority of people in Bundaberg were affected, either directly or indirectly, by the floods and they’ve all been in ‘clean up mode’ for the past two weeks. It’s been a pretty tough time for the city.

“With the race meeting going ahead it will be a good opportunity for everyone in the club to clear their head and take their mind off it all.”

With the Bundaberg club hosting the Queensland State Championships in late June this weekend’s event will kick off a big year for the club.

“This weekend really starts the year for us and the big event on the calendar is the Queensland Championships in June, everyone will be on track to start sorting themselves out for the states," said Petersen.

“We’ll be aiming for in excess of 60 drivers, we’d anticipate that throughout the year we’ll get more visitors from around the state as they look to get track time ahead of the State Championships.”

This Sunday's event will also help fundraise money to go towards the Flood Appeal.

Dromeside Raceway is located on University Drive, 5km from the city centre.
