Unique Rewards For Stars of Karting Winners

press release 19 February 2013

Competitors in the CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol EDGE will receive some unique and prestigious rewards for round victories during 2013.

These prestigious rewards are on top of the $40,000 in prizes already up for grabs by competitors in the series, which includes a $10,000 grant to the champions in each of the Pro categories to assist with them in contesting an international CIK KF or KZ event and other bonuses for competitors.

During the off-season, Series Co-ordinator Lee Hanatschek has worked with the team at Metropolitan Trophies to develop a unique hand-made trophy for the each round.

“As a series, we’re always looking to present the sport of karting in the best possible manner while providing competitors with memorable experiences and rewards, the new unique round trophies are another example of this,” said Hanatschek.

“When we re-introduced the series in 2010 the ‘Series Stars’ were presented to the Top Three finishers in the Pro classes. These have become some of the most sought after trophies in Australian karting and the new round trophies, made by the team at Metropolitan Trophies are an extension of this pathway.

“My brief to Ingrid (Weber of Metropolitan Trophies) was simple, we wanted something unique and stylish while maintaining an element of a star that signifies the series. What she’s come up with is something pretty cool.”

Ingrid Weber, Managing Director of Metropolitan Trophies, is delighted with the end product that will be first seen during this weekend’s opening round of the series in Ipswich, Queensland.

“We developed the Champion Star in conjunction with one of our other suppliers a few years back, it was probably one of our most unique trophies that we’d done and we’re very proud of them,” said Weber.

“This year we have become more actively involved with the Australian Karting Association which provided us with the opportunity to work with the Stars of Karting Series. Lee’s words to me were ‘we want something that looks good but is also unique to the series’ and after coming up with a number of different options, we have fine tuned the round trophies to be something pretty cool.”

In addition to the unique trophies, for both the Pro and support classes, the round winner in each of the Pro classes will also receive a unique round winners’ embroided badge (right) that they will be able to wear on their racing suit with pride.

“A round win is something that our drivers should be proud of and want to let people know about. They’re not easy to get – just ask anyone who’s won one in the past,” said Hanatschek.

“Highlighting this is the fact that of the 67 Pro drivers who will be competing in this weekend’s opening round, only seven of them have stood on top of the podium at the end of a round.”

The Ipswich Kart Club in Queensland will host the opening round of the 2013 CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol EDGE this weekend.

A total of 159 entries have been received for the series opener with 27 drivers in the Pro Gearbox (KZ2) ranks, 18 in Pro Light (KF) and 22 in Pro Junior (KFJ).

In addition to the Pro categories a huge field of drivers will line up in the Dunlop TaG 125 Light and Heavy categories where they will be battling for the inaugural Queensland State Championship for the class.

There will also be some great racing to be seen from the drivers in the TaG 125 Restricted category and some of the youngest drivers in the sport of karting in the Rookies category.

The Ipswich Kart Club is located on Champions Way, Willowbank. Admission for spectators is free.
