Six Blue Plates For Arrow At Vic Championships

press release 14 March 2013

Arrow Leads the Way with 6 Impressive Blue Plate Victories at the 2013 Victorian Open Championships

Arrow Karts & our loyal drivers (& crews) went two better than 2012 with a total of six (6) Victorian state championships & blue plates obtained. As if winning championships wasn’t hard enough, Puckapunyal served up extreme heat levels all week during the championships pushing all drivers to their physical threshold. Two Arrow drivers handled this perfectly, each walking away with not one, but two state championships to their name.  Both out of the KTEQ Rentals camp, these were no other than Deadly Dave Sera (Clubman Heavy / Rotax Light) and Nick Rowe (Junior Clubman / Junior National Heavy), with Sera also achieving the 50th Blue Plate / State Championship victory of his karting career.

Junior National Heavy

Junior National Heavy was as always a closely fought affair with Arrow sweeping the top 5 positions in the final. KTEQ Rental’s Nicholas Rowe, Shamick Racing’s William Hawkes & Pro Karting’s Braydon North were separated by only inches for majority of the race before an incident allowed Nick Rowe to gain advantage of his fellow Arrow Pilots. In the end Hawkes drove back through the field to race right up until the chequered with Rowe, however it wasn’t enough to stop Rowe winning his first Victorian State Championship of his career. Jordan Boys crossed the line behind the pair for a close 3rd with Braydon North falling back to 4th and Zach Phillips 5th.

Junior Clubman

In one of the most thrilling races of the weekend, Jake Klein joined the Junior National Heavy highlights of Nick Rowe, Braydon North & William Hawkes to create a final not to be forgotten for quite sometime. After leading into the first lap, Hawkes was forced to play catch up as he weaved back through with tremendous pace after an early race collision. This left the Western Australian ace of Nick Rowe to fight it out with Klein and other numerous competitors. On the last lap Hawkes showed a great amount of hunger to regain the lead and looked the goods to win as he blocked into the last corner. Surprising everyone, Rowe made the move of the 2013 Victorian Championships with a late pass right under the wings of Hawkes to win not only JNH but also the Junior Clubman Category, what an amazing way to have a Blue Plate double up!

Clubman Heavy

Described as the ‘Arrow Cup’ of the 2013 Victorian Championships, Arrow had astounding success in the Clubman Heavy category, securing the top 7 finishing positions in Sunday’s final race. The Arrow trio, including no other than J&A’s Deadly Dave sera and Leigh Nicolaou along with Kaos Karting’s Brendan Nelson, controlled the field racing nose to tail before a mid-race Red flag was signaled at the demise of fellow Arrow pilot Mark Dorbolo (an unfortunate broken collarbone was the result of the spectacular yet shocking ‘front-flip’ crash implemented by Dorbolo). Once racing continued Leigh Nicolaou briefly jumped into the lead before Deadly swooped back under to regain control. Dave Sera was never halted after this point before crossing the line to gain his first state championship in the Clubman Heavy category.

Clubman Super Heavy

Clubman Super Heavy is well known for being an OTK dominated class, well that was the case until Stable Karting’s Bruce Otter & Pro Karting’s Michael Brennan showed up. The pair raced consistently in the top 4 right throughout the meeting showing superior pace against their more fancied rivals. Brennan used his local knowledge to teach the field a lesson or two in the final, opening up a commanding lead to win his maiden Victorian State Championship.

Rotax Light

The return of Deadly Dave Sera in the Rotax Light category was nothing short of spectacular at the 2013 Victorian Open Championships. From qualifying right through to the final, the J&A/KTEQ Rentals backed driver dominated the entire field ending his weekend over 2 seconds clear of the next best in the final AND an impressive total of 50 blue plates to his name.

Rotax Heavy

Kaos Karting’s Brendan Nelson along with J&A’s Matt Wall were as usual battling for victories in the Rotax Heavy class with Nelson backing up from an impressive Pro Tour win in the weekend prior. In the final the pair went back and fourth for the lead as the pack began to close in, threatening their title hopes. Despite some heavy pressure from their competitors, an Arrow 1-2 was achieved with Brendan Nelson getting the better of Veteran and karting superstar Matt Wall.
