A new state-level karting series will launch into action at the Newcastle Kart Racing Club this weekend with the opening round of the NSW Metro State Cup being contested at the Cameron Park circuit.

The series, designed to bridge the gap between club level racing and the highly competitive national level, provides competitors will some fantastic racing value over a two-day event.

With ten categories, ranging from the young Cadets through to the 125cc TaG Light and Heavy classes, the Metro State Cup brings drivers from all across the metropolitan area together to battle for the victory.

“We identified that our club level racing was very strong and we also had a number of drivers who were performing well on the national stage, but there was a big gap in the middle where drivers were finding it hard to get the opportunity to develop their racing,” said Karting NSW Chief Executive Officer Steve King.

“The Metro State Cup has been designed to bridge this gap, it allows competitors to enjoy a significant number of laps against quality opposition in a four round series.

“These events run separately to any Club Championship and therefore it is a great opportunity for the ‘club’ level racer to experience the next step up in their karting career.

“All events will be run over a two-day period with a practice session, qualifying and heat races held on the Saturday followed by the remaining heats, pre-finals and finals on Sunday.”

The categories that form the NSW Metro State Cup are:

Cadet (B grade only)
Rookies (B grade only)
Junior National Light
Junior National Heavy

Restricted Tag 125 Light
