WARRNAMBOOL KARTERS SET FOR AUSTRANS VCS ROUND 2

Warrnambool Kart Club is gearing up to host round two of the Austrans Victorian Country Series this weekend at their Lake Gillear Circuit, and the locals are looking to make an impact on the series.

From up and comers to experienced racers, the club is looking forward to some exciting racing on the undulating layout. Two local drivers looking for a solid weekend are young Jake Maraldo and the experienced Andy Holmes.

Jake is an 11 year old Rookie competitor who loves the fun and excitement of karting, aspiring to be like his heroes, Skaife and Lowndes. The third year racer started in Cadets, and was drawn to the track following his father Dave’s involvement in the late 90’s. Jake is hoping to run in the top half of the field this weekend, and looks forward to another great battle with his fellow club member Jay Coul. Jake and his Dad are looking forward to competing in the remaining rounds of the Austrans series.

Higher on the the experience scale, is seven year Warrnambool member, Andy Holmes. The 37 year old is a machine operator at a guitar factory, and is based in Melbourne. He has been hooked on karting ever since driving a kart owned by his brother Rick in 2006, and has raced in Clubman Light before a recent move to Sportsman Restricted Light. Andy enjoys the weekends at the kart track with his fellow members, and loves getting to the fence to watch his favourite drivers, Corey McCullagh and his hero, Billy Askew. Andy will be looking for a good result this weekend at his home track, and hopes to match his previous best of 5th in the series.

Both drivers are of the same opinion when it comes to the best part of the Lake Gillear circuit, the run from turn one down the hill. It’s a section of track that favours the brave, and sets up a big passing opportunity at the bottom of the hill.

These two Warrnambool members, their club mates and more than a hundred other karters will be in action from 9am on Sunday morning, and with rain a possibility, there will be no shortage of great racing on this spectacular track.

The Austrans Victorian Country Series is proudly brought to you by major partner Austrans Container Services, and associate sponsors, Remo Racing, Yes Optus Warrnambool-Portland-Hamilton, All Star Graphics, Shamick Racing and Yamaha Australia.
