2013 McDonalds Young Guns

The Launceston Kart Club will be conducting the 16th Annual McDonalds Young Guns on Sunday April 14th. This prestigious event, which has been supported by McDonalds for the entire 15 years, is for junior drivers aged 13-16 and is a one-off 20 lap feature race that combines Junior National Light and Junior National Heavy at the pro weight of 130kg.

Two local Launceston karters will be attempting to add their names to the list of previous winners. Both Brodie Sward and James Fitch have been competing for a number of years in Juniors and are in with a chance of claiming victory come Sunday afternoon.

The list of previous winners is a who’s who of Tasmanian Karting with drivers going on to win in excess of 8 State Titles and more than 20 State closed titles between them.

Winners also include two sets of brothers with Aiden and Damon Shelton dominating the race between 2002 and 2005 and Jackson and Danton Evans winning three in a four year period.

Lately the race has been won by two of the state’s finest female drivers in Kelsey Sapwell and Gemma Wyllie. Two former winners have also gone on with their motorsport careers are Callum Zizek (2010 - now enjoying success in sprintcars) and Josh Burdon (2007 - now competing in Europe, winning round one of the Euro Nascar championship in France last weekend).
