Anzac Day Celebrations At Lithgow

by Max Laybutt 3 May 2013

The Combined Districts Kart Club has always honoured the Anzac’s with the club’s annual dedicated race meeting.  This year a large number of karters, pit crew and family members saw fit to join with the club in remembering the efforts of our forefathers in fighting to make all that we have today available to us.

A small unique ceremony prior to the drivers briefing saw club president Paul Giuntini call for a moment of silence to remember those that gave their total effort, and in so many cases their very life for the country that we have to-day.  Club member, Sargent Michael O’Brien, completed the ceremony by reading the ever invigorating and solemn Anzac Ode which clearly defines our acceptance of the Anzac’s efforts.

Then into another HUGE club race meeting, with more than 180 karters, large numbers are now becoming a regular scene at all the Combined Districts Kart Club race meetings, a true indication that the club is really doing everything it can to provide the Karters with racing as they want it.

Every Class was keenly contested by large numbers, and in each and every case the racing was of top quality with very few incidents.

The full competition format of Carby, separate 5 minute qualifying session 2 x 10 lap heats, a 12 lap pre-final and 16 lap final is designed to assist our members, and in fact all entrants to become accustomed to this type of racing in preparation for the State Championships later this year.

The club is keen to see more PRE-ENTRY’s as it is not only a major assistance for programming the meeting, but really is a benefit to the Karters with far less time taken up in the early morning entry rush.

To further improve service to our entrants, in future the race order for the days racing will be posted on the club’s web site www.cdkc.com.au and Karters given up until the Wednesday prior to the race meeting to request any changes and then the amended listed race order will be locked in and will be absolutely adhered to on race day.

A complete set of results are now posted on CM; S and are always posted to the respective site the moment a race is finished so making all results available at the track mere minutes after the completion of any race, however the following are the major place getters.

A total of 14 Starters lined up for the CLUBMAN HEAVY battle, and with some very notable performers listed among the entrants Jason VARLEY had to work well and truly hard to keep David KERMOND and Shayne PIPER behind him, and the rest of the field were not that far out of the results with everybody making it known that they have a satisfactory State Title in mind.

A solid campaign by 24 TAG RESTRICTED Karters made for some very interesting racing, and these guys are really showing their strength with really big entrant numbers. In the LIGHT DIVISION the guys had to accept that Nicole ZIEDAN was never going to give any ground away and she went on to lead Kameron OTHMAN and Jordon GREENHALGH home, while the HEAVY Guys had to follow Michael OSMOND, Simon KENDRICK and David MEDOWS home after a really tight tussle.

Armed with a total of 19 combatants, the National Heavy and Super Heavy classes just keep on keeping on and any suggestion of this group of karters diminishing was quickly extinguished with a high quality of racing that has always been a feature of this class. Jeremy ATKINS, just had to work so hard in the HEAVY DIVISION to keep the always quick Brayden PRITCHARD and Darian SCOTT behind him, while in the SUPER HEAVY’s the usual reliable and quick Tom HEARN had to surrender to Phillip MIDDLETON, Benjamin PIPER and from the Orange Club Kurtis DICKSON all of whom seemed to have all Tom’s moves covered, well for the moment!! But stand by with the over 40’s at Coffs just around the corner I suspect some foxy moves may be going on??

The Over 40’s fields of 16 National and Clubman entrants was little depleted by normal LITHGOW standards, but what they lacked in numbers they made up for in truly epic struggle for ground. In the National group Ian THORNTON getting the upper hand from Warren HODDER (The Coach) and Kevin FIELD who is always around the front and ready to take over if any mistakes appear in those ahead of him. The Clubman group is growing at every meeting and it was good to see Warwick NORRIS get a win, but not without a really concerted effort from Sargent Michael O”BRIEN and David MEADOWS.

The TAG 125 boys are a little light on numbers, however as a combined Light/Heavy group they certainly are spectacular to watch Coire DONNELLY, led Laurie FOOKS and Jason CLUDERAY home in the light division while Robert FINCH and Bradley GOODMAN filled the heavy positions.

In the SENIOR NATIONAL LIGHTS, it was another of our lady members, Sarah COLLINS who led the boys home, and so Aaron GUINTINI and William POWERS who filled the minor placing’s, actually did a great job to stay with Sarah who when she decides to can really display a good turn of ability. All these peoples, and many others in this class will keep the CDKC Flag flying high at the States and will be hard to beat as they know every stone on the Lithgow circuit.

A total of 57 Junior Karters, yes 57, made up of 11 National Heavies, 24 National Lights, 19 Cadets, 15 Rookies and no less than 12 Junior Clubman’s lined up to provide some of the best racing of the weekend.

On the Saturday in NATIONAL HEAVIES Samuel SCHWARZ led Jeffery RAHALEY and Darian SCOTT, while Sunday the NATIONAL LIGHTS saw Anthony WISKICH lead Kyle ANGEL and Shane KUBACKI, in his new SODI Kart, home. Casey SZYMKOW, William SEAL and Adrian HAAK led home a very large battalion of CADETS home and this group of little guys is really showing some great skills as they go about enjoying our great sport.  The ROOKIES of Cody BREWCZYNSKI, Brodie WHITMORE, who just keeps on improving, had to work really hard to keep Ziggy VACCARELLA into third spot.

Dennis SANDRONE has to take some very real credit for the huge upsurge in the JUNIOR CLUBMAN entrants and 12 extremely well behaved and very accomplished young drivers went out, you might say as our young ANZACS did, to show us their skills with some real enthusiasm. Thomas McDONNELL, led Isaac VACCARELLA and Connor HEY home in the final after some very good close racing all day.

And most of the entrants in the CLUBMAN LIGHT field are just up from the Junior Ranks and certainly display the values of all those prior years of dedication.  There is little doubt that Joshua SEIFFERT puts in a huge effort and showed, in the final, that if you are going to win at the State titles then Joshua is the one to beat, however Hayden SUNDERLAND and Dean O’BRIEN who filled the minor placing’s on the day, showed that they are very capable of taking the lead in any company, as are many of the other contenders of this now very popular class.

The week-end weather was just “Made to Order” with brisk Lithgow mornings followed by bright, warm, sunny days; very acceptable for good quality racing which was concluded by 4.00 o’clock on the Sunday allowing good time for the drive back down the mountain.

And the usual great effort from our girls in the Canteen always pleasant, obliging, and ready to please with the very best of food and beverages and all served with a smile.

The next meeting is the perennial CITY OF SYDNEY TITLES run by the Combined Districts Kart Club on behalf of the Sydney Kart Racing Club.  The format will be slightly different in that Saturday will be the SENIOR DAY and Sunday will be a total JUNIOR DAY (and the TAG classes I believe).  Just make sure you should check the CDKC web site for details, and PLEASE think about a PRE-ENTRY.

The trophies this year for this event,  is a combined contribution of the two clubs and will be well worth the extra effort to record a win in what is probably the longest running major club title of the New South Wales calendar.
