Lismore Young Guns Titles

from Diana Smith 7 May 2013

Another year over, and what an event. Karters came from Darwin, Victoria, far North QLD. It was one event that people were not missing out on. Lismore hosted the biggest and best Young Guns Titles to date with a total of 177 entries and this would not have been possible without the help from all of the sponsors behind this event.

A big thank you to our major sponsors - St George Kart Centre and LB Kart Supplies, for the podium prize pool and lucky door prizes. CRG chassis was drawn and won by Jack Bussey. Ian Black from IKD also supplied podium prizes for the JMax class and a JMax motor was auctioned. Racing was exciting, with full fields for practice on the Friday. The meet was opened on Saturday morning by Lismore Mayor Jenny Dowell and Lismore Council General Manager Gary Murphy. The sun continued to shine throughout the day.

Club members have worked tirelessly to make the track look the best that it has for many many years. It is a pleasure to be part of such a great club with so many friendly and helpful people.

Saturday qualifying showed the talent of these young ones making poll and top 3:

Following qualifying competitor’s received an awesome competitor’s bag. These bags contained a Young Guns T-Shirt, competitor’s medallion, wrist bands, which would not have been possible from our many local sponsors. There were many other goodies donated by Supercheap Auto, and cans of degreaser donated by Pacific Garage Ballina.

This year we have increased the number of laps for each heat to give all competitors just a few extra laps in each heat. The day ended with all classes completing heats 1 and 2 (10 laps for the Cadets and Rookies and 12 laps for the Juniors).

It was another Sunny Sunday morning (although there was a little rain overnight) and it was straight into the start of the prefinal with 12 laps for the cadets and rookies and 15 laps for the juniors.

The top 3 leading into the prefinal were:

The finals were exciting with 15 laps for Cadets and Rookies and 18 laps for the junior classes.

On the Podium to claim the awesome trophies and prizes at the Italo Australian Club (just up the road from the track) were:
