Karting News Briefs

  10 May 2013

today in go-karting land...

  • Pacific Kartsport has been appointed the sole Queensland dealer for Birel and RK chassis. The 2013 range of Birel and RK Kart will soon be available from Pacific Kartsport’s Yatala-based showroom, together with associated team sportswear, FreeLine parts and BMB engines. “Birel Kartsport Australia is excited to have the expertise of Dale (Verrall) and the experience of his team at Pacific Kartsport to look after the loyal Birel and R K Kart customers, and to promote the Birel and R K Kart brands in Queensland" Australian importer and distributor, Steve Macken, said. "Pacific Kartsport has the most modern and complete karting showroom in Queensland and they also provide great support for their customers." Pacific Kartsport will continue as an Arrow dealer and will shortly have stock of the latest X3 chassis.

  • Karting1.co.uk reports that BRP, the parent company of Rotax, is planning to launch on the stock market. An Initial Public Offering had been planned for some time but had been delayed due to the GFC. The company is hoping to raise over $250M to help pay back debt. More HERE.

  • It's unfortunate there's even a need or interest in building such a website, but the fact is, thousands and thousands of dollars of karting equipment is stolen in this country every year. Russell Mirfin has put together this website - www.stolenmotorsportequipment.com.au. People who have had their gear stolen can register the specifics of what's gone missing. The database can them be searched (for no fee) by anyone who's buying equipment and wish to check if it's been registered as stolen. If the goods for sale pop up in the SMSE register, the potential buyer will be informed, as will the police.

  • Registrations have opened for the AMSF Elite Driver Development Camp. This is a week-long training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra, from Monday July 8 to Saturday July 13. It's only open to people between 15 and 24 years of age and there's a minimum fitness level required to qualify for attendance. At $2,500 per person, it's not cheap - and you have to get yourself to Canberra. But in the grand scheme of professional racing, it's a valuable tool to the top. More on the AKA site HERE, or contact Corey Pais (Camp Co-ordinator), on 03 9593 7751, email: corey.pais@cams.com.au

  • Can't find information about a karting event you want to race at? Check this site's Race Calendar page! If we know about the event Supp Regs or an information flyer, we’ll post a link on that page: a one-stop point of reference for karting event details. There are also quick links to the various race calenders from all the different sanctioning bodies.

  • The Canberra Kart Racing Club will hold an officials school next Friday night, May 17. Members interested in becoming an Official (eg, Clerk of Course, Assistant Clerk of Course, Chief Steward, Stewards, Scrutineers etc) need to RSVP their attendance to Kylie Otter by close of business, Wednesday 15 May. "Please note the role of Official can be difficult and is not for everyone, so we encourage you to think about the commitment required before expressing your interest. If you think it is something you would enjoy, and are interested in becoming an Official in the future, please email your interest." (kylie@stablekarting.com.au)
