Baines Team Hoping For A Blue Weekend

press release 4 June 2013

After the disappointment of last weekend's washed out race meeting at Nepean Motorsport Complex, the Baines Family Motorsport Team this weekend head up the Pacific Highway to the  Gosford Showground  to contest the NSW Speedway Kart Titles.

Whilst the team's drivers have tasted State Title success in the past,  Wayne, Jake and Tim will be competing  in different classes than they have in the past few seasons.

Jake, in his first year in the senior ranks, will be racing in the  highly contested Clubman Light class - this class is the only full field that has entered for the event with some of the sport's best drivers ready to do battle.

Jake comes into the event quietly confident having already had success at the Gosford venue this season but knows that any title is a completely different ball game compared to local Club rounds. He is looking forward to the experience without any expectations except learning from the weekend to further his race craft.

Jake’s thoughts about the weekend when asked:

“It will be about collecting as many points as possible in my heats to get the best possible start in the feature and then see what happens from there. Anything can happen in motorsport.”

This season, Wayne has entered into the Clubman Heavy class after a number of successful years in the KT Modified Heavy class.

He has been racing in the Light class with Jake,  however in this event he wanted to give himself and Jake the best chance across the weekend. Wayne is a former Clubman Heavy State Champion and is looking forward to competing again against some of the drivers he used to race alongside some years ago.

When quizzed about his chances Wayne stated:

“It will be good to get back and race “The Old Fox” Les Green and Matt “Kinser” Elliott, along with the new competitors in the class. There is a lot of experience in this class this year and whoever wins will know they have raced hard all weekend to deserve it. “

Tim Baker has also moved into a new class this year and will be racing in the KT Modified Heavy Class for the first time at a title event. Tim has been racing the combined class at the NSWSKC events and has been really performing well in a class where he gives up some 25/30kgs to a few of the other competitors.  This weekend however he moves into a weight class that better suits him and it is the class that, in the last two outings at the Gosford venue, has seen him take podium places.

A former Clubman Heavy Australian Champion, Tim is really looking forward to this event and feels he could be one of the front running karts.

“We have had a good run at Gosford this year and I am looking forward to racing against all the competitors on the tight elbows of the race track. Should be a whole lot of fun.”

The Baines Family Motorsport Team would like to acknowledge and thank all their corporate partners for their continued support throughout 2013.
