press release 28 June 2013

FULL SPEED AHEAD TOWARDS THE KF AND KF-J EUROPEAN TITLES

In the first round of the CIK-FIA KFJ/KF European Championship, the IAME drivers play as protagonists. In KF-J Raspatelli almost gets the victory, only 44 thousandths far, while Tiene in KF is author of a spectacular recovery and is still in full battle for the final title.

KF Category

Nine IAME drivers at the start in the international queen class of Karting.

To better analyse the week end, it’s better to start from its end, the Final. This race sees a very animated start also caused by a starting procedure that has generated some bad mood in the drivers. Joyner and Stroll (both Zanardi/Parilla) are unluckily involved in the initial bagarre, being, until that time, two of the main protagonists. Tom Joyner, following the 6th place in the time qualifying, has some difficulties in the first qualifying heat and finishes 17th, while in the remaining three, he collects a 3rd a 2nd and a 4th, ending 9th at the penalties count. Stroll’s path is even better, 7th in the time qualifying, then three times 2nd and once 4th in the qualifying heats, securing his 3rd place after the penalties count. In his Pre-Final he finishes 3rd, right in front of Joyner. In the Final, they both start from the right side and the rest of the story is clear to all of us…

Opposite fate for Tiene (CRG/Parilla): he faces some difficulties in the time qualifying (only 25th) and is not too constant in the qualifying heats as well (his sequence: 17th, 3rd,10th,4th), again halting in the Pre-Final where he finishes 15th and achieves the 30th spot on the starting grid of the Final. In this race though, also thanks to a safe management of the tyres, he his author of an amazing performance, resulting the fastest on track, gaining 25 positions and finishing in 5th place.

Alex Palou (CRG/Parilla) races in crescendo as Tiene: 35th in the time qualifying, only 46th after the qualifying heats, he finishes the Pre-Final in 17th place and, after starting from the 33rd spot on the grid he is able to recover up to the 14th place.

A remarkable week end also for Gonzales (Kosmic/Parilla): the French driver from the team VDK Racing, following the 10th chrono in the time qualifying, races very good qualifying heats with a 4th and two 6th places. In his Pre-Final he finishes 4th, while in the final is 13th.

Among the Finalists comes also Compere (Kosmic/Parilla) whom is also stopped in the chaotic Final where he can not even finish the first lap.

KF-J Category

In the class of the youngest, Matteo Raspatelli (Tony Kart/Parilla) is among the best all week end long. 8th after the time qualifying, he then wins three out of the 5 qualifying heats and finishes 6th and 2nd in the other two. These results secure his 2nd spot in the overall standing and the start from the lead in his Pre-Final. Matteo easily wins this race and jumps in the front row of the Final. In this race only Lando Norris is able to stay in front of him, even if only for 44 thousandths: less than a blink of an eye. Well done Matteo!

Good meeting for Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart/Parilla), a race “in recover” after the 23rd place in the time qualifying. Alessio well recovers to the 19th in the qualifying heats, where he finishes once 4th, twice 7th than 9th but also 20th . In the Pre-Final  he shows all his talent and recovers up to the 5th place. In the Final he will then be 9th.

Some more difficulties for Leonardo Lorandi (Tony Kart/Parilla): 29th in the time qualifying, 25th after the qualifying heats (a 4th and a 6th are his best results), then he is 14th in the Pre-Final and in the Final he his unfortunately disqualified due to a non-compliance.  The other IAME drivers are not able to qualify for the Final, but the performance from Bollier is worth of mention, as he finished among the top 30 after the qualifying heats.
