Top End Set To Host Australia's Young Stars

press release 2 July 2013

As the excitement builds up for the 2013 Northern Territory State Karting Championships this weekend at the Hidden Valley complex, much attention will be focussed on two of Australia’s young rising stars who will be out to take success in the top end.

Darwin’s Bryce Fullwood and West Australian Nicholas Rowe are two of Australia’s top young drivers, and both will be battling it out to secure top end glory over the two day event. Fullwood, who has used the track since he first got behind the wheel, has had a busy schedule in the first half of the year.

“I’ve really enjoyed racing both in the Rotax Pro Tour and CIK Stars of Karting Series this year and to have taken the State Championship in Junior Max last weekend in Queensland, I’m really confident,” Fullwood said.

For Nicholas Rowe, in addition to an intensive Karting campaign, the young gun from Karratha in Western Australia has also stepped up into the World’s Premier Junior Development category, Formula Ford.

“It’s been an incredible experience so far this year, firstly to have taken two State Championships in Victoria earlier in the year, and then to join Formula Ford and get adapted to driving a racing car with gears and a great deal more setup and engineering required,” Rowe said.

Both Fullwood and Rowe admit the Darwin event is vastly different from any other State Championship around Australia, while the intense weather won’t concern the pair, they are understandably excited at taking part in the event.

“I always enjoy racing in my home event, it’s also really good to see a lot of interstate drivers making the trip up this year too,” Fullwood stated.

“The Darwin event is always one that I look forward to, the atmosphere is incredible and the entire Karting community is always so welcoming,” Rowe added.

The 2013 Northern Territory State Karting Championships will encompass nine race categories, with the largest being Cadets, for drivers aged 7-11 years of age, and will include Jack Doohan, the son of five-time World Moto-GP Champion Mick Doohan.

A large range of entries have been received, with drivers travelling from Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria in addition to the local Northern Territory drivers.

The event will be run over two official days, with qualifying and heat racing to occur on Saturday, and finals on Sunday which will determine the 2013 Northern Territory State Karting Champions.
