Central Queensland Series, Round 1

This weekend saw the first round of the CQ Series in the Port City, Gladstone. Almost 100 Karters enjoyed the fine sunny weather for some great racing.

The meeting saw the return to racing of club favorites Ken Prichard, Sam Battye and Travis Martin after enforced lay offs.

Well done to the officials and karters as the meeting ran very smoothly and finished on time allowing travelling karters plenty of time to get home in the afternoon.

Racing started with the Cadets and local Josh Butler took a clean sweep of all races to take the Class.

Young Sam Battye marked his return to racing with a win in the Rookies over Rockhampton favorite Joel Jamieson.

Some of the hottest competition for the weekend was in the Junior National Light category where Mitch Bennett, Francis Dunnett, Joseph Black and Jack Bussey thrilled the spectators and fellow karters with some great racing with lots of lead changes, Mitch Bennett eventually coming out on top.

Queensland Sportsman Light had the largest field with good racing and local karter Craig “Skettie” Butler coming out on top ahead of Bundaberg’s Troy Loeskow.

In Queensland Sportsman Heavy Jeremy Sonter of Emerald, a regular visitor to Gladstone, came out triumphant ahead of Bundaberg’s Robin Petersen. Robin was recognized for his efforts with the recent Bundaberg Open States and as Event Co-coordinator for the CQ Series, well done Robin.

Queensland Sportsman Super Heavy went to Hayden Maguire of Emerald and TaG 125 Light to Troy Loeskow of Bundaberg.

TaG 125 Heavy saw a battle between Matt Dicinoski and Travis Martin, both of Gladstone with Matt Dicinoski taking the honors.

In JNH Gladstone’s Jack Bussey was dominant winning all races, well done.

It was the usual thrills and spills in the popular TaG 100. Despite an off track excursion from Ken Prichard, with the help of a mate, he managed to realize a very popular win for the Gladstone stalwart returning after many months out - go Ken! Ken was chased to the line by Keith Butler and Jock Robertson, also Gladstone karters.
