NSW Closed Titles

The 2013 NSW Closed State Titles were run at Lismore on the weekend. The weather was overcast with the odd shower leading up to Thursday, the Official practice day, before the start of the Closed State Titles.

The pit area was filling up fast and karters were on the track giving it their best to learn the track. Karters were starting to organise their wet weather tyres in anticipation of a wet weekend.

By Friday morning the sun was shining through and the first of the two qualifying sessions was soon under way.  With qualifying over, the following drivers sat on pole for the opening heats:

The afternoon saw some very exciting racing as karters were battling it out over 10 laps during the 1st heat of the Closed State Titles.

The start of Saturday morning saw a thick blanket of fog over the whole area, and carby session was delayed until the fog lifted and again the sun was shining through and the day warmed up very nicely.  It wasn’t long and the kart engines were started and gates opened for carby session and start of heat 2 with another 10 laps to work out their position on the grid for the pre-final.

Pole position on the grid for the pre-final showed only one change from the qualifying order with John Iafolla in Junior National Light getting up to the front for his pre-final start:

The afternoon was a challenging 15 laps for karters and the result of this would now give them all their position for the final to start on Sunday morning.  Harry Hayek managed to take pole in Junior Clubman from Gus Flynn; Todd Stocks took pole from Brett Llewellyn in TaG Restricted Light; Jayden Ojeda reclaimed the front spot from John Iafolla in Junior National Light; Lee Gardiner managed to take pole from Luke Garrard in TaG Restricted Super Heavy, and last but not least Gus Flynn landed pole over Jayden Ojeda in Junior National Heavy.

Once again Sunday morning saw another blanket of fog over the track, but it lifted very quickly so that carby and finals could get well underway. The finals consisted of 22 laps of very challenging and close racing.  The professionalism of these drivers shined through as it could have been anyone race in any of these classes.

Lismore Kart Club would like to thank all the competitors for the great racing, the distance they travelled to attend and to make this such a great meeting.
