Motor Sport in Australia is heading in one direction in the future after an historic forum between Australian motor sports major stakeholders.

A recent meeting in Adelaide mapped out a more co-operative approach to dealing with issues impacting on the future of motor sport.

Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) Chief Executive Eugene Arocca hosted an all-day conference with Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) Chief Executive Mal Bulley and Speedway Australia General Manager Dale Gilson. With the support of the Australian Karting Association (AKA) National President Craig Denton, there was strong agreement for the need to work more closely together and cooperate for the good of motor sport.

CAMS’ Eugene Arocca was delighted to have played a part in this landmark moment for Australian motor sport and firmly believed that the united approach to common issues facing motor sport would reap long term benefits for the industry.

“Australian motor sport can only become bigger and better as a result of this. If we can work as one and take the same road together, everyone connected to motor sport will benefit. Our collective aim is to make a great sport bigger and better!” Arocca said.

It was agreed a united approach would benefit Australian motor sport in many ways and would result in the implementation of strategies for the promotion of motor sport as a whole. The CEOs discussed everything from how to better approach Government to derive funding the sport and developing tracks to enhanced junior participation programs and elite driver development. Other matters discussed included membership engagement, training officials risk management policies.

“This new initiative will see long term benefits for all forms of four-wheeled motor sport in Australia, particularly at a grass roots level. The Australian Karting Association is excited to be a part of this ongoing collaboration and we’re looking forward to the benefits that this will bring to the sport across the country,” stated Australian Karting Association National President Craig Denton.

“Motor sport in Australia can benefit from shared resources in a number of areas and it doesn’t matter whether it is on bitumen on dirt, around a track or in a straight line,” ANDRA Chief Executive Mal Bulley said. “Drag racing is often seen as separate from other motor sport but there is no doubt that we are seeking many of the same goals and by working together we can achieve those in a more efficient way.”

“Speedway Australia is looking forward to the opportunity of working together with CAMS, ANDRA and the AKA. Many of our issues and opportunities are similar and we consider a collaborative approach to these a positive step forward for motor sport in Australia. Speedway Australia has reinvented itself in the past few years and we see this as another important step in the evolution of speedway in Australia.” Speedway Australia General Manager Dale Gilson said.

This week’s meeting is the first of regular meetings between the organisations that drive motor sport in this country.

CAMS, AKA, ANDRA and Speedway Australia all look forward to a new era of cooperation and anticipate a bright future for Australian motor sport with a solid and sustained collaboration.
