KF QUALIFYING

In qualifying the 4 drivers Matthew Waters, Joshua Smith, Dimitri Agathos and Lachlan Gibbons all hit the track with high expectations. Waters and Smith both showed that the Kosmic package was very competitive, both drivers putting themselves in the Top 5 shootout for Pole position.

At the end it was 4th for Smith and 5th for Waters in the shootout laps, not pole, but the Kosmic chassis was working very well and both drivers said they had a good race package. Gibbons and Agathos had a difficult qualifying and would start from further back than what they wanted.

KF SATURDAY

On Saturday the Heats would be raced and Smith proved very fast in each race Waters also raced at the front in the heats however he made contact with another driver in heat 2 and suffered a DNF. This put some pressure on him and the title chase closed to within a few points going into Sundays 2 finals.

KF SUNDAY

Smith started on grid 3 in the first final on Sunday and made a great start moving into 2nd early but contact with another driver soon ended his race.

Waters continued his good pace to finish in 2nd and set himself up with a good points lead going into the final race. Agathos and Gibbons showed some good speed in the first final but no luck again for them.

The second final Waters only needing to finish within the top 9 to secure the KF National Championship and he started from the front row. Smith, Gibbons and Agathos all had to start from the rear of the grid due to the first final. Gibbons came through to finish 11th, Smith put in a very determined drive to storm through from last and 100m behind in the first lap due to a crash in front of him to finish 7th and right on the tail of the leading group, Agathos had a final to forget even though he set some fast times he was caught up in the opening lap crash.

Matthew Waters drove a smart race to finish 6th but could of easily finished on the podium, however with the championship in mind he chose not to fight positions and finish to win the National Championship for Kosmic to make it 4 years in a row that the Kosmic kart brand has won the title!
