CIK STARS OF KARTING ROUND 1 REPORT

Seven classes on offer for the new VEGAS Chassis & it was on the podium in five & won three:

  • Tag Restricted - 1st
  • KF2 - 1st
  • TaG Heavy - 1st
  • TaG Light - 2nd
  • KZ2 - 2nd
  • KF3 - 3rd until engine failure on 2nd last lap

VEGAS VEGAS VEGAS…. That was the talk around the pits at round one of the CIK Stars of Karting held at Willowbank Raceway, Ipswich QLD last weekend. No, not Sin City but DPE Kart Technology’s new 30/30 VEGAS chassis. The latest weapon to come out of DPE is defiantly one of DPE’s best products EVER!

In the KF2 division, former Ipswich Kart Club Champion Scott Sorensen in his Arrow VEGAS chassis continued his good form from Friday, where he was the fastest qualifier and winner of heat 1 to winning heat 2 and 3 and then 1st in the final. This sits the Harrington Doyle Racing Arrow driver a clear leader in the series after round 1. Jarryd Ebzery, Scott’s team mate sits a close 3rd in overall points after qualifying second and collecting three 2nd places over the weekend in his Arrow VEGAS chassis.

In KF3 it looked like a podium for virgin CIK racer Aaron Cameron until his kart expired due to an unexpected electrical fault. Aaron in his VEGAS chassis was running a strong 3rd position when with a few laps to go the engine lost spark. This was so disappointing for the youngster after a big effort and his first CIK meeting ever. Although disappointed, he was proud of the pace he had out of the huge field of 26 competitors. The Arrow VEGAS chassis in this class has massive potential for the rest of the year. Watch this space!

KZ2 saw the VEGAS KZ2 chassis debut and there’s now talk of more appearing for coming rounds. The VEGAS chassis dressed as a Deadly Kart and driven by Deadly’s own David Sera, the chassis had a fantastic performance for its first gear box race ever, finishing 2nd in overall points for the event. David did a stunning job once again after only having minimal time back in KZ2 since 2011. When asked how he performed so well after so little time back in the seat he replied “it’s the easiest shifter kart I’ve ever driver, which made it easy for me to do the job”….

TAG light had another VEGAS Deadly kart finish a close 2nd with Daniel Rochford steering it home right on the bumper of Kris Walton.

Undefeated at the Ipswich track since he stepped foot in his VEAGS chassis, Brendan Nelson dominated TAG Heavy once again. Brendan has told us the kart is so easy to drive he hardly changes the set up!

TAG restricted light was taken out by Pacific Kart Sports driver Arrow driver Ryan O’sullivan in his 30/30 Arrow chassis!

All in all there is one common denominator here, and that is the VEGAS chassis is starting to make big impressions in Club, State, National and now CIK level !!!

Bring on Round 2 at Bolivar Raceway.
