Ben's Bent On A Good Result At Bolivar

Adelaide’s Ben Edwards is no stranger to speed – on the racetrack.

This weekend, Edwards will take on Australia’s best kart racers at speeds in excess of 120 km/h as he chases glory in the second round of the CIK Stars of Karting Championship presented by Castrol EDGE.

The five-round Championship has drivers competing for the right to etch their name on the James Courtney trophy, named after the two-time World Karting and 2010 V8 Supercars Champion.  The winner also receives funding towards contesting an international karting event in Europe.

After struggling with engine issues during the opening round of the Championship in Queensland last month, Edwards is focused on achieving a good result on his home track at Bolivar Raceway this weekend.

“Competing on your home circuit has to be one of the best feelings, you know the track like the back of your hand, so the whole weekend flows a bit easier as you know what needs changing on the kart when the track conditions change,” said Edwards, who is supported by the Ambassador Card.

“I’m coming into this weekend with more confidence over last month’s event as we’ve purchased a new kart and also found some more horsepower.

“After enduring round one with engine issues, we got approached by an engine builder that wanted to explore more into the engine problems which had an outcome of loads more horsepower.”

Edwards is under no illusions though, the opposition will be tough as competitors will be coming from all across Australia to compete.

“There are drivers from all around the country coming to compete.  It is going to be extremely tight with guys like defending champion Matthew Waters from Sydney, Victorian Leigh Nicolaou and Round One winner Scott Sorensen amongst those who I’d expect to be right up the front of the field.”

More than 150 drivers will be in action at this weekend’s event, including 2011 World Cup Champion Joey Hanssen from the Netherlands in the KZ2 ranks, and V8 Ute driver Kris Walton, who leads the TAG Light Championship.

Practice will be held on Friday with racing from 8:30am on both Saturday and Sunday.  The action from the finals on Sunday will be streamed live across the internet.

The Bolivar Raceway is located on Summer Road, Bolivar.  Admission is free for spectators.
