Birel Kartsport Hunt For More Success In Geelong

press release 23 May 2014

Birel Kartsport Australia will field another strong group of Junior and Senior drivers that will take to the Beckley Park International Raceway this weekend with round five of the 2014 Rotax Pro Tour for the 2014 Jason Richards Memorial event, with the winner of DD2 also being awarded the Jason Richards Cup.

Victorian Brad Jenner currently leads the rankings in Rotax Light and will enter the event full of confidence on the back of his victory at Geelong last year, and some strong recent testing at the circuit. Jenner believes the setup he and his team have achieved should provide them with the best opportunity possible to return to the top of the podium.

“Last year’s event at Geelong was really positive for us and the win was a real highlight. We were in a new chassis at the time so it was great to have that success. I think our chances are quite high this weekend and I’m hoping to bring home some more silverware. I can’t thank the Macken family and Birel Kartsport enough for their continued support,” Jenner said.

Queensland’s James Macken delivered a blistering performance in the final at Pro Tour Lithgow last time out and the former Team Australia driver is hopeful to secure more success in the strong DD2 field this weekend. With the winner also being awarded the Jason Richards Cup in memory of his racing history in the category, Macken admits it would be a special honour to have his name join the honour roll in the past two running’s of the special event.

“We had a great run at Lithgow but my focus is now to back up that performance at Geelong. It should be a great meeting being the Jason Richards Memorial and it will mean a lot if I can get the win and receive the Jason Richards Cup aswell. It’s another strong field in DD2 so it will be tough but I feel we are up to the challenge to be up the front from the start,” Macken said.

A healthy group of Junior Max drivers will field the Birel and RK Kart chassis this weekend, with Mitchell Maddren, Hunter McElrea and Joshua Car in the open Junior Max class and Jye Hopkins continuing to work alongside the Birel Kartsport team in his Junior Max Trophy Class campaign.

Maddren is currently the highest placed Birel Kartsport driver in the Junior Max rankings, sitting sixth with McElrea in 11th and Joshua Car in 13th as they gain further experience in the highly competitive Pro Tour series. Hopkins will be amongst the determined group of drivers in the Trophy Class who continue to improve their Rotax racing skills in the one-make category.

Round five of the 2014 Rotax Pro Tour takes place at the Beckley Park International Raceway, Geelong, Victoria from May 23-25.
