Round 2 of the SA Festival State Cup series was held at the Monarto Karting Complex on Sunday June 1. The SA Open State Championships will be held at the Monarto Karting Complex in August and further improvements to the canteen and track facilities have been completed in readiness.
The morning dawned bright and sunny and with 150+ entries promised to be a long day. Sadly there were no entries for Clubman Light class at all, so it would not run, but both the Junior Clubman and Junior Max classes had strong fields so there would be high quality racing in both.

It was national champion Josh Denton who led the way with a clean sweep of heat wins in both Junior Clubman and Junior Max. There was also a clean sweep for returning Andrew Cash to win Clubman Super Heavy.
The Cadets saw the usual large field led home by Blake Purdie, with Tyler Craig taking three seconds and almost slipping up with a tenth in the wet final. Michael Jones was consistent all day for 3rd and Troy Fortainer was fourth after a win in the first heat but a DNF in the second saw him slip down the grid and have to fight his way back.
The Rookies was also graced with a large field, Cooper Hay and Jack Hutchins sharing two heats wins apiece, to finish first and second overall with Connor Gowling taking a string of seconds for third outright.
Clubman Heavy saw a return to karting of Luke Marquis, racing against his father Sparky. It was a more consistent Josh Fielding with three second places and a win in the final taking the overall win from Sparky with Luke relegated to third.

Sparky backed it up in Clubman Over 40s for second on the day, his three second placings were outdone by Steve Blee’s three heat wins, with third overall falling to Super Heavy class driver Johny Ellis.
This year the TaG 125 Restricted Light and Heavy classes are included in the series points, so a strong entry in both saw some mixing of newcomers with returning experienced drivers. David Rinaldi won the Heavies from Steven Brown, a past Gokart Club of SA club champion from the1990s. Third was Hayden Slattery and fourth was the returning Blake Mooney, having missed out on his class running at the AKA Nationals he has taken up residence in TaG Restricted.
