Race days don’t come much better than the June club day at the Tiger Kart Club's Wanneroo Kartway. A very cold morning greeted 137 drivers on race day but as the sun came out a beautiful blue sky with perfect conditions made for an awesome day at the track.
Not only did the weather turn on a show but so did the drivers. Great racing in all classes put on a show for the many spectators along with some nice clean driving.

The Tiger Kart Club puts a real focus on giving our members as many races and laps possible with some unique features designed to cut down time wasting and hold ups. Combining classes where we can, using a time penalty for jumped starts rather than the red white chequer and 4 manned trolley points around the track so DNF karts are quickly returned to the pits all reduce the waiting time between races.
Some meetings are harder to run than others by having a few red flags or drivers not ready on the out grid, sometimes it might be a computer issue or grid positions out of order causing a delay or two. This weekend though the whole shooting match came together with absolutely no holds ups of any kind. Each race was out of the start gate in less than a minute and all the races ran without any red flags or false starts what so ever. The trolley guys had karts back to the pits in no time and the tower crew ran the CMS system perfectly along with our famous grid marshal Mike Colgan keeping everything in order all day long.

End result was 137 karts getting 5 heats of 8 laps all done and dusted by 3.45pm!!! The $40 entry fee would have to be the best value day of racing you will find anywhere not to mention racing on a fully resurfaced 1025Mtr CIK standard track and facilities 2nd to none.
The June club day is also a special event for the Over 40s class with a perpetual trophy being awarded to the 2nd place driver in the first heat of the Over 40s race.
The trophy is to remember a great club member in Dirk Bromlewe who unfortunately passed away at the track a few years ago during our June club day from a heart attack. Dirk had just finished 2nd in the first heat his best ever performance in Over 40s prior to his untimely passing. Paul Brophy, our Wanneroo track president, made a nice speech during the drivers brief about Dirk and also the time to reflect on how lucky we all are to be alive and able to do something as fun and exciting as kart racing. Dirk's son Mark was at the track to present the trophy to John Brennan who came in 2nd in the first over 40s race. It was a great way to remember Dirk and how much he enjoyed his karting.

Once again many thanks to the volunteers who helped run a fantastic meeting and we look forward to the next club day at our Cockburn track in July. See you there!!!
