CRG Australia’s Mason Barbera has been dedicated to his karting career over the past two years, and it is this dedication that has now carried him to a National Championship.

At the recent Rotax Nationals, Barbera secured the team its second Australian title of 2014 with victory in the Rotax Heavy class in his CRG chassis.

After setting the fifth fastest time in qualifying, Barbers worked his way up the order in the heat races before crossing the line third in the pre-final.

During the 20-lap final encounter Barbera diced in an intense pack of highly experienced drivers before making the most of his opportunities to cross the line first ahead of multiple-time Australian Champion Scott Simpson.

“It is a pretty surreal to realise that I’m now an Australian Champion,” Barbera said.

“I’ve worked very hard over the last couple of years to put myself in the position where I have been able to be a contender and thanks to the tireless efforts of the team at CRG Australia I’ve now got a green plate.”

Barbera’s fellow Queenslander Tyler Greenbury was also a star across the weekend.  The Hashtag Racing driver set the pace aboard his CRG in the 55-driver Rotax Light field before winning his opening two heat races.

Unfortunately, Greenbury’s quest to secure his fourth National Championship ended mid-way through the 20-lap final when he was caught up in an incident that left him on the sidelines.

The CRG Australia team now turns their focus towards the final round of the Castrol EDGE CIK Stars of Karting Championship to be held at Melbourne’s Todd Road circuit on September 20/21.
